The Ryan Murphy-produced drama starring Joshua Jackson concludes its first season on May 15.
The future of Doctor Odyssey remains an open question as ABC sails into Disney’s upfront presentation Tuesday.
The first-year drama from 20th Television and Ryan Murphy Television, starring Joshua Jackson as a cruise-ship physician, is the only current ABC scripted series still awaiting word on its future (its season finale airs Thursday). ABC has said it’s continuing talks with executive producer Murphy about the show’s next steps, a position Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich reiterated to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview Tuesday.

“It’s not currently on our schedule. We’re continuing to have creative conversations with Ryan, and we’ll talk to him about what the next chapter looks like,” Erwich said. “Ryan’s really busy, but we’ll continue to talk.”
Doctor Odyssey, which also stars Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale and Don Johnson, averages about 8 million viewers in Nielsen’s cross-platform ratings, which measure viewing over 35 days. That ranks fifth among ABC dramas —behind High Potential, Will Trent, 911 and The Rookie— and seventh overall on the network this season (not including sports).
Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken are writers and executive producers of Doctor Odyssey. Jackson and Johnson also executive produce, as do director Paris Barclay, Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson and Nissa Diederich.
Murphy will still have two shows on ABC in the fall with 911 and its new spinoff 911: Nashville. The latter is taking over the 9 p.m. Thursday spot where Doctor Odyssey currently airs.
